Tiny newborn Selena woke up and immediately realized something was different.
Mommy wasn’t right beside her.
Selena slowly lifted her little head and looked around. Her eyes moved from one side of the room to the other, searching for the familiar face she knew so well.
Nothing.
“Eee… Mommy?”
Her tiny voice sounded weak and worried.
Selena carefully pushed herself upright. Her little legs were still unsteady, but she was determined to find Mommy. She took a few tiny steps across her safe, supervised space, looking everywhere.
Then her mouth opened wide.
“AAAAH! Eeeee!”
Selena began crying loudly.
She looked behind the blanket.
Nothing.
She turned toward the doorway.
Still nothing.
Her little mouth opened again as another big cry escaped.
“Mommy! Mommy!”
She continued taking tiny, wobbly steps, calling out as she searched. Every few seconds, she stopped and looked around, hoping Mommy would suddenly appear.
Poor Selena looked completely confused.
She was still so young that the room felt enormous without her caregiver nearby. She didn’t understand that Mommy was only a short distance away.
Selena’s eyes became watery.
She cried again and stretched both tiny arms forward.
“Eeeeeee!”
Then she heard a familiar sound.
“Selena?”
The little monkey froze.
Her eyes widened.
She knew that voice.
She immediately turned toward Mommy.
There she was!
Mommy had been nearby the whole time, carefully supervising Selena from a safe distance. The moment Selena saw her, she hurried forward with her tiny, unsteady steps.
“Mommy!”
Her mouth opened wide again, but this time the cry sounded more like relief than fear.
Mommy gently came closer and picked her up once Selena was safely within reach.
“Oh, my poor little girl,” Mommy whispered. “Were you looking everywhere for me?”
Selena immediately wrapped her tiny arms around Mommy and pressed her face against her chest.
Her loud crying became soft little whimpers.
Mommy gently stroked her back.
“I’m here, sweetheart. You don’t have to search anymore.”
Selena held on tightly.
She had been brave enough to walk around looking for Mommy, even though her little legs were still learning how to balance. But once she found the person she trusted, all her tension disappeared.
Mommy gave her a gentle cuddle and checked that she was warm, comfortable, and settled.
“There you go,” she whispered. “Mommy is right here.”
Selena lifted her head and looked into Mommy’s eyes.
Her tears were still visible.
Then she gave one tiny squeak and tucked her face back against Mommy.
The room became peaceful again.
The newborn who had been walking around with her mouth wide open, crying desperately and searching for her mother was finally safe and comforted.
Mommy kissed the top of her tiny head.
“You found Mommy, little Selena.”
Selena slowly closed her eyes.
This time, she didn’t need to search anymore.
She had found exactly where she wanted to be—in Mommy’s warm, loving arms.
