Tiny Moly was having a peaceful day near the pool when Mommy briefly stepped away to prepare something nearby. Moly had been sitting safely in a supervised spot, watching the water and looking around with curious little eyes.
At first, he seemed completely fine.
But when he realized Mommy wasn’t right beside him anymore, his expression suddenly changed.
He looked left.
Then right.
Mommy was nowhere in sight.
“Eee… Mommy?”
Moly waited.
Nothing.
His tiny face became worried, and he began looking around more quickly. He didn’t understand why Mommy had disappeared from his view. The familiar person he had been watching was suddenly gone, and the quiet surroundings made him feel uncertain.
Then Moly started crying.
“Eeeee! Eeeee!”
His little voice became louder and more desperate. He stretched his arms toward the place where Mommy had been, calling for her again and again.
“Mommy! Mommy!”
Poor Moly looked completely confused.
He wasn’t trying to be naughty. He simply wanted to know where Mommy had gone.
His cries grew louder, and Mommy immediately heard him.
“Moly! Mommy is here!”
The moment he heard her voice, Moly stopped for a second.
He looked toward the sound.
Then another little cry escaped him.
“Eee!”
Mommy quickly came back into his view and made sure he remained in a secure area well away from the pool. She gently reassured him rather than allowing him to approach the water while upset.
“Oh, my poor little Moly. Mommy didn’t leave you. I was only nearby.”
Moly reached both arms toward her.
Mommy came close and comforted him once he was safely away from the pool.
“There you are,” she whispered. “You’re okay.”
Moly pressed his little face against Mommy and continued making tiny whimpering sounds. His tears slowly dried as he realized she had returned.
Mommy gently stroked his head.
“You were looking everywhere for me, weren’t you?”
Moly gave a tiny squeak.
He still looked emotional, so Mommy stayed beside him until he was completely calm. She made sure he understood that the pool area was not a place for him to be alone and that he should always remain under close supervision around water.
After several minutes, Moly’s breathing became peaceful again.
He lifted his head and looked at Mommy.
She smiled.
“See? Mommy is right here.”
Moly reached up and gently touched her face.
Then he cuddled against her again.
His frightening moment was finally over.
What had started as confusion and loud crying ended with Moly safely back beside Mommy, feeling warm and reassured. For such a tiny baby, even a short moment without seeing his trusted caregiver could feel like a very long time.
Mommy kissed his little head.
“Don’t worry, sweetheart. You’re safe with Mommy.”
Moly closed his eyes and rested peacefully against her, no longer afraid.
