It was a sunny afternoon, and baby monkeys Lyka and Lito were placed gently on the table after a long play session in the yard. Their fur still had bits of grass and dust, and both were feeling a mix of tired and very hungry. But worst of all—mom wasn’t there yet.
Lyka sat with her little arms folded, lower lip trembling, and eyes darting toward the door. Every tiny sound made her ears twitch in hope. But when it wasn’t mom, her face scrunched up in frustration. She let out a loud squeal and banged her tiny hand on the table. “Eeeek!”
Beside her, Lito was already rolling on his back dramatically, kicking his legs in the air. His stomach growled and his mood soured quickly. He cried out, twisting his little face into a full-blown tantrum. The table shook with their little protests.
A caregiver walked by and tried to distract them with a soft toy, but neither wanted it. They didn’t want playtime—they wanted mom.
Lyka crawled to the edge of the table, peeking down, hoping she’d appear. When she didn’t, she wailed again and reached out her arms, demanding comfort. Lito sat up, pulled at his ear, and let out a high-pitched cry as if to say, “Where is she?!”
Then, footsteps. Familiar ones. Their tiny heads turned quickly.
Mom had arrived—with milk!
The tantrums stopped like magic. Lyka bounced up and squeaked with joy. Lito scrambled to her side, eager for his turn. Their tears disappeared the moment mom sat beside them and offered her warmth.
All they had needed was a little patience—but for Lyka and Lito, waiting for mom felt like the hardest thing in the world.
