The tiny baby monkey sat nervously on the table, his little arms hugging himself as he looked around, unsure of what was happening. Just moments ago, he had been in the warmth of his caregiver’s arms, and now, suddenly, he had been placed alone on the hard, unfamiliar surface.
His bottom touched the table, and though it wasn’t a fall, the slight drop made his body jolt in surprise. His lip trembled, and within seconds, soft whimpers turned into loud, heart-tugging cries.
The caregiver stood nearby, preparing his milk, unaware at first of just how upset the little one was becoming. The baby monkey’s eyes welled with tears. He didn’t feel hurt—just scared, confused, and unsure why he wasn’t being held like before.
His soft cries grew into full sobs. He looked around for reassurance, his arms reaching up as if begging to be picked up again. The table felt too big, too cold, and too far from comfort.
Finally, the caregiver turned and noticed. With a gentle chuckle and a heart full of love, they hurried over, scooping the baby into their arms. The little monkey clung tightly, crying into their shirt, slowly calming down with each passing second.
Soon, the warm bottle of milk was ready. Still sniffly, the baby began to drink, his tiny hands wrapped around the bottle like it was the most precious thing in the world.
Though it was just a small moment of sitting alone, to this tiny baby, it felt like an eternity of loneliness. But now, safe in familiar arms with his milk, his little heart settled again—reminded that love was never far away.
