In the quiet backyard, birds chirped gently, and the warm sun bathed the grass in gold. Everything was peaceful—until Luna heard the soft sound of familiar footsteps.
“Thump… thump… thump…”
Her ears perked up. Her tiny nose twitched. Then her eyes widened—Daddy was coming!
Without a moment’s hesitation, Luna threw her hands into the air, flopped onto her back like a theater star, and screamed.
“WAAAHHHHHHHHH!!”
Everyone turned. The chickens scattered. Even the dog stopped chewing his bone.
“Again?” Mom whispered with a half-smile.
It didn’t matter how many times a day Dad came or went—Luna cried like the world was ending every single time. Sometimes before he even said a word. Sometimes just when she saw his shadow.
Dad laughed from a distance. “What now, my little drama queen?”
But Luna wasn’t laughing. She kicked her feet, rolled on her side, and sobbed as if Daddy had left her forever—even though he was just a few feet away with her favorite banana snack.
“Daddy didn’t hold me yet!” she wailed between sobs.
He walked over, scooped her up, and kissed her forehead. “Luna, you didn’t even give me a chance.”
Snuggled up in his arms, Luna’s cries stopped instantly. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, her little tail curling with relief. Her whole body melted into his chest.
Mom shook her head. “She wins every time.”
Dad smiled. “How could I resist this little queen?”
And there she was, peaceful again—until next time Daddy walked away and the curtain rose on another Luna performance.
