It was a sunny afternoon, and baby Chamroeun had found his favorite snack — a juicy piece of sweet corn! He held it tightly in both hands, nibbling with pure joy while sitting on the cool concrete step.

But trouble was nearby.

The family chicken, known for being bossy and fearless, spotted Chamroeun’s corn from across the yard. Her eyes locked onto it, and without hesitation, she began marching over, her feathers puffed and feet stomping with authority.

Chamroeun spotted her out of the corner of his eye. At first, he froze. Then he quickly glanced around as if thinking, Not again! He stood up, clutching the corn close to his chest and squinting his eyes in preparation.

The chicken came closer, clucking louder with each step. Chamroeun narrowed his eyes, and with his tiny foot, he gave a warning stomp — but the chicken didn’t care.

“Cluck-cluck!” she barked, pecking the air in front of him.

Chamroeun had had enough. He shouted, puffed up his little chest, and lifted one hand to wave her away. Then, determined to protect his treasure, he took a few bold steps toward her.

The chicken paused, surprised by the tiny monkey’s courage. Chamroeun gave a second louder shout, and finally — victory! The chicken turned and walked away with a frustrated cluck, clearly defeated.

Chamroeun proudly sat back down, munching on his corn once more, eyes still watching in case she dared return.

In that moment, he wasn’t just a baby monkey — he was a brave little warrior guarding his golden corn.
