Baby monkey Cici was having one of those days. Her tiny arms wrapped tightly around the leg of a wooden chair, her small feet gripping the bottom rung as she whimpered softly. Her eyes were puffy from crying, and her little lips trembled with each sob.
Cici had been playing happily just moments ago—chasing her best buddy, a gentle kitten named Miu, around the yard. They were inseparable. Wherever Cici went, Miu was close behind, brushing up against her or curling beside her during naps. But today was different.
Miu had wandered off.
The kitten, curious and carefree, had padded away through the open door, chasing something only she could see. Cici didn’t understand. She just saw her friend leave—and not come back.
Now, clinging to the chair, she was heartbroken. She called out softly at first, a few little coos and whines, hoping Miu would return. When no pawsteps came, her sadness turned into frustration. Her cries got louder. She stomped her feet. She even slapped the floor in anger.
“Why did you go without me?” her eyes seemed to ask.
The humans nearby tried to comfort her, offering her a toy or a bottle. But Cici only wanted her best friend.
Finally, after what felt like forever to the tiny monkey, a soft meow echoed from the doorway.
Cici froze.
Miu was back.
The kitten trotted toward her like nothing had happened. Cici blinked through her tears, jumped off the chair, and rushed to her furry buddy. Without a sound, she hugged Miu tightly and buried her little face in the kitten’s neck.
