It was supposed to be just another quiet morning at the rice field, but things took a sudden turn when baby monkey SokYaa let out a loud cry. She had wandered off while playing and froze in shock when she saw something moving in a puddle of thick mud—tiny fingers reaching, barely above the water.
It was Sokhaa!
The poor little monkey had accidentally slipped into the muddy water and was too weak to get out. Her entire body was soaked, and her small face was coated with dirt. She looked frightened, cold, and helpless—just barely clinging to the grassy edge of the field.
SokYaa screamed louder, calling for help. Her high-pitched cries alerted the caregivers nearby, who rushed over immediately. When they arrived and saw Sokhaa struggling, they didn’t hesitate. One of them jumped into the field, pulled the trembling baby from the muddy water, and wrapped her in a dry cloth.
Sokhaa clung tightly to the rescuer’s arm, breathing hard. Her tiny chest heaved as if every breath was a struggle. SokYaa stayed close, refusing to leave her sister’s side.
Back home, the caregivers gently cleaned Sokhaa with warm water, wiping the mud from her eyes and nose. She didn’t make a sound—only looked up with tired eyes, holding tightly to SokYaa’s hand for comfort.
That night, the two baby monkeys slept beside each other in a soft basket, finally safe and warm. SokYaa, still worried, curled her tail around Sokhaa as if to promise she’d never let her go again.
What started as a normal day turned into a powerful reminder: even tiny monkeys can be heroes.
