Little Lily, the baby monkey, was full of energy that afternoon. She had been climbing and swinging from the bamboo rails near the washing area, her playful chirps echoing through the air. Her tiny hands gripped the edge of a big, uncovered water tank, curious to peek inside.
But curiosity can be dangerous for little ones.
As Lily leaned forward to look at her reflection in the water, her small feet slipped. In a flash, she tumbled into the tank with a splash! The cold water surrounded her tiny body, and panic set in.
She flailed her arms, her eyes wide with fear. The tank was deep, and Lily was too small to climb back out. She screamed in her baby monkey voice, “Eee! Eee!”—calling for help with all the strength she had. But no one was nearby.
The area was quiet. The other monkeys were playing far away. Her mom wasn’t around. The humans hadn’t noticed yet.
Lily paddled helplessly, her little face barely staying above the water. Her body trembled with fear and cold. Tears mixed with water as she cried louder and louder.
Finally, after what felt like forever, a caretaker heard her cries. Rushing to the tank, they looked in and gasped. With no hesitation, the rescuer reached in and scooped her out of the water.
Lily clung to their chest, soaked, shivering, and breathing hard. Her cries quieted as she felt warmth and safety again. She was saved.
Though just a baby, Lily had faced real fear. And that day, everyone learned to be more careful—because a moment of curiosity nearly became a tragedy.
From now on, Lily would never be left near danger again. 🐒💔💦
