Little Minea was enjoying a comfortable morning with Dad. She loved sitting close to him, feeling his warmth, and being carried around whenever she wanted to explore something new. In her little world, Dad was the person who made everything feel safe.
But that morning, Dad had a different idea.
He wanted to encourage his adorable baby girl to become more confident moving around on the floor.
Dad prepared a clean, soft mat in a quiet corner of the room. He checked that the area was safe, removed anything she might trip over, and sat down beside it. Then he gently placed Minea on the mat, keeping one hand nearby to support her if needed.
“Come on, sweetheart. Let’s try a little walk!” Dad said cheerfully.
Minea stared at him.
For a moment, she seemed completely confused.
Then she looked down at the floor and back at Dad. Her tiny eyebrows drew together, and her mouth formed the funniest little pout.
She clearly wasn’t impressed with Dad’s plan!
When Dad encouraged her to move forward, Minea immediately reached both arms toward him. She wanted to be picked up, not asked to practice walking.
“Come here, Daddy! Pick me up!” her expression seemed to say.
Dad smiled and gently encouraged her again.
That was when Minea’s dramatic personality appeared.
She let out a loud little complaint, waved her hands, and turned her face away from him. Her tiny body stiffened with frustration, as if Dad had just suggested the most unreasonable idea in the entire world.
“Oh, really?” Dad chuckled. “You don’t want to walk today?”
Minea answered with another angry squeal!
She stretched her arms toward Dad and looked at him with watery, disappointed eyes. She was perfectly happy when he carried her, but the moment he wanted her to explore independently, she suddenly had a thousand objections.
Dad couldn’t help smiling at her expression, but he didn’t force her to walk.
“It’s okay, little girl. We can take our time.”
He sat beside her and allowed her to settle down. Minea slowly stopped complaining, although she continued watching him suspiciously, as if she were making sure he wouldn’t suddenly ask her to walk again.
Dad offered her a favorite toy and placed it nearby on the mat.
At first, Minea ignored it.
Then curiosity won.
She leaned forward slightly, reached toward the toy, and shifted her little body closer. It wasn’t a big step, but Dad was delighted to see her exploring at her own pace.
“Good job, sweetheart!”
Minea looked at him, then quickly reached toward his hand. She still preferred Dad’s company to anything else.
Dad gently reassured her and let her decide whether to continue exploring. He understood that confidence couldn’t be built through pressure. A young monkey needed patience, appropriate movement opportunities, and a safe environment.
After a while, Minea relaxed on the soft mat, playing with her toy while Dad sat nearby.
Her angry expression finally disappeared.
Dad gave her a gentle smile.
“You don’t have to be brave all at once, little princess. We’ll learn together.”
Minea moved closer to him and settled comfortably beside his leg, looking much happier now that nobody was rushing her.
Dad knew there would be more dramatic protests in the future. After all, his little girl had already demonstrated that she had a very strong personality!
But he also knew that every small moment of patience would help her feel more secure.
Sometimes, a baby doesn’t need to be pushed to take the next step. She needs someone patient enough to sit beside her until she’s ready.
