The morning breeze drifted gently through the backyard as little Selena sat wrapped in a soft towel after her bath.
Mom had just finished cleaning her tiny body and carefully drying her soft fur. Smiling, she kissed Selena on the forehead before saying, “Stay here for just a moment, sweetheart. I’m going to get your clean clothes.”
Then Mom walked inside the house.
The moment she disappeared through the doorway, Selena’s eyes grew wide.
She looked toward the house.
Then toward Dad, who was sitting beside her with a warm smile.
“Mom will be right back,” Dad said gently as he reached out his hand.
But Selena wasn’t convinced.
The tiny baby monkey let out a dramatic squeak, then another, until her cries echoed across the yard.
She waved both little arms wildly and stared at Dad with an expression that seemed to say, “Why is Mom gone? Go get her!”
Dad chuckled softly.
“I’m here with you, little princess.”
He gently tickled her tiny feet and made funny faces, hoping to distract her.
For a brief moment, Selena stopped crying.
She tilted her head and looked at Dad with curious eyes.
Dad smiled even bigger.
“That’s better.”
But only seconds later, Selena remembered that Mom was still inside the house.
She threw her tiny hands into the air and began talking loudly in excited little squeaks and chirps, as though she was explaining her complaints to Dad.
Her face looked serious.
She pointed toward the doorway.
Then back at Dad.
Then toward the doorway again.
Dad laughed.
“Oh, I see. You’re telling me to hurry Mom up?”
Selena answered with an even louder squeak.
It sounded exactly like an impatient little conversation.
Dad nodded dramatically.
“Alright, I’ll tell her you’re filing an official complaint.”
The tiny monkey paused and stared at him, almost as if she expected him to solve the problem immediately.
When he didn’t move, Selena let out another loud protest and crossed her tiny arms with the most adorable grumpy expression.
Just then, Mom stepped back outside carrying Selena’s clean clothes and a warm bottle of milk.
The instant Selena saw her, everything changed.
The crying stopped.
The dramatic “conversation” with Dad ended.
Her angry little face melted into excitement.
She reached both tiny arms toward Mom as fast as she could.
“There she is!” Dad laughed.
Mom picked Selena up, cuddling her close.
“Were you giving Dad a hard time while I was gone?”
Selena buried her face against Mom’s shoulder and let out one final tiny squeak, as if saying, “I was just making sure you came back.”
Dad smiled as he watched the two cuddle together.
It amazed him how such a tiny baby could have such enormous emotions.
To Selena, even a few moments without Mom felt far too long.
Yet seeing her return erased every tear in an instant.
As Mom gently dressed Selena and handed her the warm bottle of milk, the little monkey looked perfectly content once again.
The morning drama was already forgotten.
Dad shook his head with a smile.
“She may be the smallest member of the family,” he said, “but she certainly has the biggest personality.”
Mom laughed softly and kissed Selena’s forehead.
Sometimes babies don’t have words to explain how much they miss someone.
Instead, they cry, squeak, wave their tiny hands, and pour every feeling from their little hearts into the people they love.
And for Selena, there was no greater comfort than knowing Mom and Dad would always be there, no matter how dramatic her morning became.
