In the lively home where the monkeys and their caretaker lived, mischief was always around the corner. Today, it was about cake—a delicious, freshly baked treat their caretaker had left on the kitchen counter to cool.

The sweet aroma filled the air, and it wasn’t long before Monkey Su’s curiosity got the better of her. She tiptoed into the kitchen, her eyes gleaming as she spotted the cake. Just as she reached out to grab a piece, Kuku, her loyal and playful friend, appeared in the doorway.

“Su, what are you doing?” Kuku whispered, his tone both surprised and amused.

“I just want one little bite!” Su replied, her voice barely audible as she tore off a small piece.

Before either of them could think, footsteps echoed in the hallway. Their caretaker was coming back! In a panic, Su dropped the cake piece and froze. Without hesitation, Kuku grabbed the remaining piece and stuffed it into his mouth.

When their caretaker entered, her eyes immediately fell on the partially eaten cake. “Who did this?” she asked, her voice stern but curious.

Su shrank back, her tiny hands trembling. Before she could utter a word, Kuku stepped forward. “It was me!” he blurted out, raising his hand like a student confessing to a teacher.

Their caretaker looked at Kuku with raised eyebrows. “You? And why, may I ask, did you eat it?”

Kuku hesitated, glancing at Su, who was watching him with wide, grateful eyes. “I… I couldn’t resist. It smelled so good,” he admitted, trying to sound convincing.

Their caretaker sighed and shook her head, but a small smile tugged at her lips. “Well, Kuku, you’ll have to help me bake another one as your punishment.”

As their caretaker left the room, Kuku turned to Su, who hugged him tightly. “Thank you,” she whispered.

“Anything for you,” Kuku replied with a wink, feeling proud of his act of friendship.

From that day on, Su knew she could always count on Kuku to have her back—even if it meant taking the blame for her sweet-tooth mischief!
