Early in the morning, the sun peeked through the curtains of a quiet little room where Baby Monkey Lyka was curled up in her cozy blanket. She had just finished a warm bottle of milk and was feeling full, snug, and incredibly sleepy.
But Mom had other plans.
“Time to change that stinky diaper, little one,” she cooed, gently lifting Lyka onto the soft table.
Lyka blinked slowly, her eyes half-closed, lips puckered in a sleepy pout. She didn’t care about stinky diapers — she only cared about going back to her nap.
As Mom pressed on the diaper to check, Lyka suddenly let out the most massive yawn ever seen from a baby monkey. Her tiny mouth opened wide, her arms stretched out, and her head tilted back like she was trying to yawn all the sleepiness out of her body.
“AAAAHhhhhh…”
It was so long and dramatic, even Mom giggled.
“You’re not even awake enough to complain!” she whispered, amused.
Lyka gave a tiny whimper, not in protest, but because she didn’t want to be disturbed. As Mom carefully cleaned her and got a fresh diaper ready, Lyka yawned again — almost bigger than the first.
Her little belly rose and fell like a sleepy balloon, and soon she was sucking on her fingers, eyes closing mid-change.
By the time Mom secured the diaper and buttoned her romper, Lyka had already drifted off, mid-yawn, mouth still open just a little.
Mom picked her up and rocked her gently. “You silly sleepyhead,” she whispered.
Lyka, still in dreamland, cuddled into her mother’s shoulder with a peaceful sigh.
