Jona Sits Impatiently Waiting for Mom

The warm afternoon breeze swept gently through the front yard, but baby monkey Jona sat on the wooden bench with a grumpy pout. His tiny legs dangled off the edge, swinging impatiently as he waited for his mom to return.

Jona huffed loudly, crossing his little arms over his chest. “Why is Mom taking so long?” he thought, his tail flicking back and forth in frustration. He shifted restlessly, glancing toward the front door every few seconds, hoping she’d appear.

The flowers in the garden swayed peacefully, but Jona couldn’t care less. Time seemed to move slower with each passing moment. He stood up, stomped his tiny feet on the bench, and let out a dramatic squeal.

“Mom!” he called out loudly, though there was no response.

Feeling utterly ignored, Jona plopped back down and puffed up his cheeks like a sulking child. His little heart thumped with a mix of impatience and longing. Usually, his mom was never gone this long.

Just when Jona was about to give up and start throwing leaves in protest, he heard a familiar sound—the gentle rustle of footsteps approaching the house.

Jona’s ears perked up instantly. His eyes sparkled with hope as he jumped down from the bench and scampered toward the entrance.

The door creaked open, and there she was—his mom, holding a small basket filled with fruit.

Jona squealed joyfully, his earlier frustrations melting away. He rushed toward her, wrapping his tiny arms around her leg.

“I’m back, little one,” his mom said softly, stroking his head.

All was forgiven. For Jona, nothing else mattered as long as Mom was finally home.
