Little Bunny was having a peaceful afternoon at home with Dad. The tiny baby felt safe whenever Dad was nearby, and he loved following him around the room with his little feet.
Before leaving, Dad gently placed Bunny in a cozy spot on the bed while he prepared to step outside for a short while.
“Stay comfortable, little Bunny. Daddy will be back soon,” Dad said softly.
Bunny watched him walk toward the door with his big, curious eyes.
But as soon as Dad disappeared, the little bunny began to feel lonely.
He looked toward the doorway, waiting for Dad to come back. At first, he stayed quietly on the blanket. Then he began hopping around, searching for a familiar face.
“Daddy? Where are you?”
Of course, Bunny couldn’t understand why Dad had left or how long he would be gone. He only knew that the person who made him feel safe was no longer beside him.
After a while, Bunny moved too close to the edge of the bed.
Before he could stop himself, he slipped and tumbled onto the floor.
Thump!
Bunny froze in surprise.
Then he began making frightened little cries.
He looked around, confused and scared, wishing Dad would appear immediately. The floor seemed enormous to such a tiny bunny, and he didn’t know what to do.
Meanwhile, Dad’s errands took longer than expected. He hadn’t realized how much time had passed, and he hurried home as soon as he could.
When Dad finally opened the door, he immediately noticed that Bunny wasn’t in his usual place.
“Little Bunny? Where are you?”
Then he heard a faint sound from the floor.
Dad rushed over and found Bunny sitting near the bed, looking frightened.
“Oh, my poor little Bunny!”
Dad knelt beside him, speaking softly. He didn’t immediately pick him up. First, he carefully checked whether Bunny seemed injured, watching for unusual movement, bleeding, swelling, or signs of pain.
Because a fall can seriously injure a small animal even when there are no obvious wounds, Dad contacted a veterinarian for advice and arranged an examination.
While waiting for guidance, he kept Bunny in a quiet, safe place at floor level, away from furniture and other hazards.
Bunny slowly stopped crying as Dad sat nearby.
His little nose twitched, and his ears lifted slightly when he heard Dad’s familiar voice.
“I’m here, sweetheart,” Dad whispered. “I’m sorry you got frightened.”
Dad stayed close, making sure Bunny was comfortable and following the veterinarian’s instructions.
That evening, he prepared a safer little resting area for Bunny, with soft bedding and secure sides so he couldn’t accidentally fall from a height again.
Dad realized that even a short absence could leave a tiny pet vulnerable if its surroundings weren’t safe.
From that day on, Bunny’s resting place was kept safely on the floor, and Dad made sure the little bunny was never left unattended on a bed.
As Bunny settled into his cozy space, Dad gently stroked the blanket beside him.
“You’re precious to me, little one. I’ll always do my best to keep you safe.”
Bunny twitched his nose and nestled down to rest.
Sometimes, love means more than coming back to comfort someone. It also means creating a safe place where they can never fall so easily again.
