Little Ronaldo was having a big adventure. He had been walking around the yard, taking one tiny step after another while looking everywhere for Mommy. He couldn’t see her nearby, but he was determined to find her.
“Mommy… where are you?”
Ronaldo kept walking.
Step by step, he wandered farther across the damp ground. He looked behind a plant, turned around, and continued searching. The rain had left some areas soft and muddy, but Ronaldo was too focused on finding Mommy to notice.
Then suddenly, his little feet sank into the wet mud.
Ronaldo stopped.
He tried to lift one foot, but it felt heavy.
He pulled again.
Nothing.
“Eeee! Eeee!”
His worried voice grew louder.
The tiny monkey looked down at his muddy feet and then around for Mommy. He tried moving forward, but the soft mud held him in place. Nearby, shallow water had collected on the ground, making everything even more slippery.
Ronaldo became frightened.
“Mommy!”
He began crying loudly.
Fortunately, Mommy heard him.
She hurried over and immediately saw her little boy standing nervously in the muddy area. She spoke calmly so he would know that help was coming.
“Ronaldo, stay still, baby. Mommy is here.”
Ronaldo looked up.
The moment he recognized her voice, his frightened expression changed. He reached his little hands toward her and cried even louder, as if telling her how long he had been searching.
Mommy carefully helped him out of the soft mud and moved him to a safe, dry place. She gently cleaned the mud from his little feet and checked that he was comfortable.
Ronaldo stayed close to her, still making tiny unhappy sounds.
“Oh, my little explorer,” Mommy whispered. “You were looking everywhere for me, weren’t you?”
Ronaldo pressed himself against her and finally began to calm down.
Mommy gently stroked his back. “Next time, don’t wander into the muddy water by yourself. If you can’t see me, stay somewhere safe and call for me.”
Ronaldo seemed to listen.
After his little feet were clean and dry, Mommy settled him on a soft blanket. He looked back toward the muddy area but quickly turned his attention to Mommy instead.
He had learned an important lesson that day.
Exploring could be exciting, but wandering too far could become frightening, especially when the ground was wet and slippery. And when a little baby couldn’t find his caregiver, staying in a safe place was much better than continuing farther into danger.
Mommy gathered Ronaldo close.
“I’m right here now.”
Ronaldo rested his head against her and gave one final tiny whimper.
Then he relaxed.
His long search for Mommy had ended—not in the mud, but safely in the warmth of her loving arms.
