The afternoon was calm when little Yuri sat outside near the house, happily watching Mom prepare a few things.
At first, Yuri was perfectly content.
She followed Mom with her bright eyes and made tiny happy sounds whenever Mom looked back at her.
Then Mom suddenly stood up.
“I’ll be right back, sweetheart. Mommy just needs to get something inside.”
Yuri watched Mom walk toward the house.
She didn’t seem worried at first.
She waited patiently.
A few moments passed.
Then a few more.
Yuri looked toward the doorway.
Still no Mom.
Her little face slowly became serious.
“Mama…”
There was no answer.
Yuri called again, louder this time.
“Mama! Mama!”
Still nothing.
Her tiny lips began to tremble.
Then the tears came.
“WAAAAAH!”
Yuri started crying loudly, stretching both little arms toward the house.
She couldn’t understand why Mom was taking so long.
Dad came over and tried to comfort her.
“Mommy will be back soon, little one.”
But Yuri wasn’t interested in anything Dad offered.
She kept staring at the doorway.
Every little sound from inside made her think Mom was coming.
But each time, nobody appeared.
Her crying became even more dramatic.
She made tiny unhappy moans and reached toward the house again.
Finally, Mom came back outside.
The instant Yuri saw her, she stopped for half a second.
Then she cried even louder.
“Oh, Yuri!” Mom hurried over.
She gently picked her up and held her close.
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. Mommy didn’t mean to keep you waiting.”
Yuri immediately wrapped her tiny arms around Mom and buried her face against her shoulder.
Her loud cries slowly turned into quiet sobs.
Mom gently rubbed her back.
“Did you miss Mommy that much?”
Yuri held on tightly, refusing to let go.
Dad smiled.
“She definitely kept track of every second you were gone.”
Mom laughed softly and kissed Yuri’s forehead.
“Mommy is here now.”
Yuri slowly calmed down.
She rested her head against Mom’s chest, listening to her familiar heartbeat.
The tears disappeared little by little.
Mom gently rocked her and whispered, “Even when Mommy has to step inside for a moment, I’ll always come back.”
Yuri gave one tiny sleepy sound.
Soon, her eyes became heavy, and she relaxed completely in Mom’s arms.
The dramatic crying was finally over.
For little Yuri, the waiting had felt endless.
But the moment Mom returned and wrapped her in a warm cuddle, her whole little world felt safe again.
