Monkey Lyly Takes Matters into Her Own Hands: Peeling a Coconut

The afternoon sun shone brightly over the bustling little forest community where Monkey Lyly lived with her family. While her siblings played nearby, Lyly spotted a fresh coconut lying on the ground. She was thirsty and knew the coconut’s sweet water would quench her thirst.

“Mom!” Lyly called out, hoping her mother would help her open the tough coconut shell. But her mother was busy tending to her younger sibling and didn’t hear Lyly’s plea.

Lyly huffed, determined to solve the problem herself. “I can do this!” she muttered, picking up the coconut with her tiny hands.

She first tried rolling the coconut along the ground, hoping it would crack open. When that didn’t work, she grabbed a small stick nearby and began poking at the husk. It was hard work for her little hands, but she didn’t give up.

After a while, Lyly discovered the trick: pulling at the fibers one by one. Slowly but surely, she peeled away the outer husk, revealing the hard, brown shell inside. Her eyes lit up with excitement, and her tail swished happily as she realized she was almost there.

Next came the tricky part—cracking the shell. Lyly tapped it against a rock, her little muscles straining with each attempt. Finally, with a satisfying crack, the coconut split open, and its refreshing water spilled into a leaf she had placed underneath.

Triumphant, Lyly cupped her hands and drank deeply from the leaf, the sweet water cooling her down instantly.

When her mother finally noticed what Lyly had done, she couldn’t help but smile with pride. “You’re such a clever little monkey, Lyly,” she said, pulling her into a warm hug.

That day, Lyly learned the value of determination and resourcefulness—and the reward of enjoying the fruits of her own labor.
