Baby Bunny waited quietly on the edge of the small bed, her tiny legs tucked beneath her as she stared toward the doorway. Dad had left earlier than usual that morning, and the room had felt empty ever since. Every sound made her lift her head, hoping it was him coming back. But the hours passed slowly, and only silence remained.
She shifted closer to the edge, trying to see better. Her eyes were heavy with sleep, yet she fought to stay awake, afraid she might miss him. Her small hands pressed into the blanket for balance. The bed felt bigger without him beside her. The world felt uncertain.
Then it happened.
Her little body tipped forward too far. The blanket slipped. In one sudden moment, Bunny rolled off the bed and fell to the floor with a soft but frightening thud. A sharp cry burst from her mouth as pain and fear rushed through her tiny body. She lay there stunned for a second, then cried louder, calling out with everything she had left.
No one answered.
Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to sit up. Her leg ached. Her heart hurt even more. She had fallen while waiting for the one person she trusted most. The floor felt cold. The room felt too quiet. Her voice grew hoarse from crying.
Time stretched painfully until the door finally opened.
Dad rushed in the moment he heard her cries. His face changed when he saw Bunny on the floor. He lifted her instantly, holding her tight to his chest. Bunny cried harder at first, releasing all the fear she had held inside. Then slowly, as his warmth surrounded her, her sobs softened.
Safe again at last, Bunny rested her head against his shoulder, still trembling.
She hadn’t fallen just from the bed.
She had fallen from waiting too long for love to return.
