Mom’s Plea for Selena to Play Alone
Selena, the tiny baby monkey with big sparkling eyes, clung tightly to her mother’s fur, refusing to step onto the soft grass below. Her mom, exhausted from hours of caring, feeding, and comforting, gently tried to persuade her. “Just a little while on the ground, my sweet girl,” her mother seemed to say as she nudged Selena forward with affectionate patience. But Selena had other plans.
The moment her feet touched the earth, she let out a dramatic squeak, scrambling right back up into her mother’s arms. She wasn’t scared of the ground; she was simply stubborn, playful, and a little too attached. Her mother sighed softly, giving her a warm cuddle before trying again.
This time, she placed Selena beside a pile of leaves and colorful wildflowers, hoping the sights would distract her. Selena stared, curious for only a second, then shook her head and hopped back into her mother’s lap. Her mother gently pushed her off, encouraging independence, but Selena puffed her cheeks and crossed her tiny arms as if saying no one could make her do anything she didn’t want to.
As minutes passed, her mother tried everything—tickling, gentle nudges, playful noises—but Selena remained determined not to play alone. Finally, her mother pretended to walk away. Selena froze, startled. After a moment of hesitation, she slowly stepped onto the grass again, looking around as though discovering the world for the first time.
A butterfly fluttered past, catching her attention. She reached out, giggling in her tiny monkey way. Within moments, she was exploring, hopping, touching leaves, and chasing shadows. Her mother watched from a short distance, relief filling her tired eyes.
Selena wasn’t being naughty after all—she just needed a gentle nudge to discover the joy waiting under her feet.
