Baby Bunny was having a quiet afternoon resting on the soft bed where Dad had left him. Dad told him gently, “Bunny, stay here just a moment. Daddy will be right back.” Bunny trusted those words, curling his tiny body into the blanket and blinking his big, sleepy eyes.
But moments stretched longer… and longer. Dad still hadn’t returned. Bunny shifted nervously, glancing at the doorway, waiting for the familiar footsteps. His little heart began to worry. Why was Daddy taking so long? Where did he go?
Trying to peek over the edge of the bed, Bunny crawled forward just a bit—too far. His tiny hands slipped. His legs wobbled. And before he could stop himself— THUD! He tumbled right off the bed and landed on the floor.
For a second, Bunny froze, shocked and scared. Then the pain and fear hit him all at once, and he let out a heartbreaking cry. “Aaaaahh—eek eeeek!” His tears came fast. His nose shook. His little chest rose and fell quickly as he cried louder and louder, hoping Dad would hear him.
Minutes felt like hours. Bunny dragged himself to sit upright, still sobbing, tiny hands rubbing his eyes. Where was Daddy? Why wasn’t he here yet?
Just when Bunny thought he had been forgotten, the door opened quickly—Dad rushed in. His eyes widened in shock when he saw Bunny on the floor, crying uncontrollably. “Oh no, Bunny! Daddy’s here, daddy’s here!”
Dad scooped him up instantly, holding him tight against his chest. Bunny buried his face into Dad’s shirt, trembling from fear and sadness.
Dad stroked his back gently. “I’m so sorry, sweetheart… Daddy shouldn’t have been late.”
And wrapped safely in Dad’s arms, Bunny finally calmed, knowing he was loved—never abandoned.
