Baby BeBe had been playing happily on the soft mat, her tiny hands fiddling with her favorite toy. She was in a good mood, enjoying the cozy afternoon with Mom nearby. But then, without warning, Mom stood up and walked toward the cupboard to grab a fresh diaper.
To BeBe, this was an unacceptable betrayal. She wanted Mom right beside her—always. The moment Mom stepped away, BeBe’s big eyes followed her, her little face slowly turning into a frown. She let out a small whimper at first, hoping Mom would come back instantly. But when Mom didn’t, BeBe decided this was serious.
With a dramatic sigh, she flopped down onto the floor, her tiny arms spread out. She began kicking her little legs and making loud protest sounds, her version of saying, “How dare you leave me right now?” Her tail twitched, and she kept glancing toward Mom to make sure her cries were noticed.
Mom, smiling at the scene, tried to reassure her from across the room. “Just a moment, BeBe, I’ll be right back.” But BeBe wasn’t having it. She pressed her cheek to the floor and let out another exaggerated cry, making sure her feelings were clear.
Finally, Mom returned with the diaper in hand and scooped BeBe into her arms. The little monkey immediately quieted down, snuggling close as if nothing had happened. Her pouty face slowly melted into a tiny smile, but her eyes still said, Don’t do that again, Mom.
For BeBe, a clean diaper was fine—but nothing was more important than Mom staying right by her side
