In the heart of the jungle, where sunlight filters through thick green leaves, a tiny baby monkey named Leo sat trembling on the forest floor. He had just woken up from a nap in the high branches, only to find that his mother, Libby, was nowhere in sight.
Panic hit him like thunder.
His little body shook as he cried out, his calls echoing through the trees. “Eee! Eee!” he screamed, looking around with wide, terrified eyes. He stumbled to the ground, too young to climb back up, and curled up beneath a fern, whimpering.
He didn’t know that Libby had only gone a short distance to find food. But to Leo, it felt like she had left him forever.
Nearby birds paused their chirping, sensing something was wrong. A young female from the troop approached him cautiously, but Leo cried louder, refusing comfort from anyone else. He wanted his mom.
Then, like a miracle, Libby appeared above, swinging quickly through the branches. She spotted her baby shaking below and rushed down with lightning speed.
“Eee-ee!” she called, her voice calm and familiar.
Leo looked up, gasped, and ran straight into her arms. Libby hugged him close, pressing her cheek to his head, wrapping her tail gently around his tiny body.
She rocked him slowly, making soft sounds to reassure him.
In her arms, Leo stopped shaking. His cries turned into soft hiccups, and he clung tightly to her fur, refusing to let go.
The jungle exhaled in peace once again.
