Little Jasmine was having one of the most dramatic moments of her tiny life, and nobody could have guessed that something as simple as being put down would make her so upset. Just moments earlier, she had been sitting comfortably in her mother’s arms, enjoying the warmth and security she loved so much. To Jasmine, there was no better place in the world than being close to Mom.
But then something terrible happened—or at least, that was how Jasmine seemed to feel about it. Mom gently lowered her onto the floor, hoping her little girl could sit safely for a while. The moment Jasmine realized she was no longer being carried, her entire expression changed. Her eyes widened, her little mouth tightened, and she stared at her mother in complete disbelief.
“Mommy! Why did you put me down?” her expression seemed to ask.
Jasmine sat on the floor, looking absolutely heartbroken. She glanced at Mom, then looked away dramatically, as if she had decided that she would never forgive such an unfair decision. Her tiny body became stiff with frustration, and she began making loud little cries to express her disappointment.
Mom tried to reassure her, but Jasmine wasn’t ready to listen. She wanted to be picked up again, and she wanted it to happen immediately! Every time Mom moved nearby without lifting her, Jasmine looked up with an even more offended expression.
It was almost impossible not to smile at her dramatic personality. This little baby seemed convinced that being held was her special right, and sitting on the floor was an unacceptable punishment.
Mom gently spoke to her, hoping to help her settle down. She knew Jasmine needed patience and reassurance, especially when she became overwhelmed by a change she didn’t like. But Jasmine continued to pout, occasionally turning her face away as if she couldn’t bear to look at the person who had disappointed her.
Then something unexpected happened.
Mom shifted slightly, and Jasmine immediately turned her head. Her little eyes followed every movement, watching carefully to see whether Mom was finally coming to pick her up. When her mother came closer, Jasmine stretched out her tiny hands.
For a moment, she seemed ready to forgive everything.
But when Mom paused to let her settle, Jasmine let out another loud complaint! She clearly wanted her mother to understand that a few comforting words were not quite the same as being held.
Mom stayed close, making sure Jasmine was safe and comfortable. She offered gentle affection while allowing the little monkey time to calm herself. Slowly, Jasmine’s cries became quieter, and her angry expression softened just a little.
She looked down at the floor, then back at Mom. Her tiny face still carried a trace of disappointment, but her curiosity was beginning to return. She noticed something nearby and reached toward it, briefly forgetting about her earlier protest.
Mom watched with relief as Jasmine began exploring her surroundings. Although she still wanted plenty of attention, she was gradually discovering that she could feel secure even when she wasn’t being carried every second.
A little later, Jasmine moved closer to her mother and leaned against her. Mom responded gently, offering the comfort and reassurance her baby needed. Jasmine settled down, looking much less upset than before.
It was a small moment, but it showed how much patience caring for a young monkey can require. Baby monkeys need consistent attention, safe surroundings, and gentle handling. When they become distressed, they need calm reassurance rather than punishment or teasing.
And Jasmine? Well, she certainly had her own opinions!
Even after calming down, she occasionally glanced at Mom as if making sure the situation wouldn’t happen again. Her little expression seemed to say, “Mommy, I love you, but next time, please remember that I prefer your arms!”
Mom stayed beside her, and Jasmine finally relaxed, feeling safe enough to enjoy the rest of her day.
