Tiny baby monkey Bubu was enjoying a quiet moment in his cozy resting place. Being so young, he found comfort in sucking on his tiny fingers. Whenever he felt sleepy or unsettled, he would bring one little finger to his mouth and suck on it while curling his other hand close to his chest. It was his favorite little habit, and he certainly didn’t want anyone interrupting him!
Mommy sat beside him, watching his tiny movements with a gentle smile. Bubu looked so peaceful that she almost didn’t want to disturb him. But when she noticed him sucking his finger again, she carefully checked that his hand and mouth were clean and that nothing seemed to be bothering him.
“Hello, my little sweetheart,” Mommy whispered. “Are you getting sleepy?”
Bubu ignored her completely. His eyes were half-closed, and his tiny finger remained in his mouth. He seemed to believe that as long as he kept sucking, nothing in the world could bother him.
Mommy gently reached toward his hand to see whether he was comfortable.
The moment his finger moved away from his mouth, Bubu’s expression changed!
His eyes opened wide, his eyebrows tightened, and he let out a surprisingly loud cry. “Eeeeh! Eeeeh!”
He waved his little arms and scrunched up his face, looking absolutely furious. His tiny cheeks became flushed as he protested the interruption. It was almost as if he were shouting, “Mommy! Why did you take away my favorite thing?”
Mommy was startled by his dramatic reaction. “Oh, dear! You really didn’t like that, did you?”
Bubu continued crying, desperately trying to bring his hand back toward his mouth. Mommy realized that he was seeking comfort, not trying to misbehave. Instead of repeatedly pulling his finger away, she stopped interfering and gave him a moment to settle.
“It’s alright, sweetheart. Mommy is here,” she murmured.
She checked that his fingers were not injured and that he could move his hand normally. Then she made sure he was warm and resting comfortably. Because Bubu was a newborn, she knew that any unusual or persistent distress deserved careful attention rather than simply being dismissed as a tantrum.
After a little while, his cries became quieter. Mommy spoke softly and stayed nearby, allowing him to settle naturally without forcing his hands away from his mouth. She also planned to ask a qualified wildlife veterinarian whether his finger-sucking was appropriate for his age and whether he needed any special care.
Little Bubu finally relaxed, his tiny body resting peacefully against the soft bedding. Every now and then, he made a small squeak, as though he still had a few complaints to share with the world.
Mommy smiled and gently stroked his back.
“You certainly know how to tell me when you’re unhappy, little one,” she whispered.
Bubu blinked sleepily, then nestled into his blanket. His little hands curled close to his body, and soon his eyes began to close again.
Mommy stayed beside him, keeping him safe and comfortable while he rested. She knew that caring for such a tiny newborn required patience, tenderness, and close attention to every little signal he gave.
Sometimes, a newborn’s loudest protest is simply a sign that he needs comfort. A gentle response can help him feel safe while his caregiver makes sure nothing else is wrong. ❤️
