Little Monee was having one of the most dramatic afternoons ever! Her tiny tummy was getting empty, and she was eagerly waiting for Mommy to bring her lunch. She sat in her cozy little spot, watching Mommy move around the room with wide, impatient eyes.
At first, Monee tried to wait quietly.
She looked toward the doorway, then turned back to Mommy. Whenever Mommy picked something up, Monee thought it might be her food. But each time, Mommy continued preparing things instead of bringing her lunch immediately.
Monee’s patience quickly disappeared.
Suddenly, she opened her little mouth as wide as she could and let out an enormous scream!
“AAAAAAAH! AAAAAAH!”
Mommy turned around in surprise.
“Oh, Monee! What’s all this noise about?”
But Monee wasn’t ready to calm down. She waved her tiny hands, wriggled impatiently, and screamed again. Her little face looked so serious that anyone watching might have thought the biggest disaster in the world had just happened.
She was hungry, and she wanted lunch RIGHT NOW!
Mommy gently approached her and checked that she was comfortable. She understood that Monee might be hungry, but she also wanted to make sure nothing else was upsetting her.
“Are you waiting for your lunch, little drama queen?” Mommy asked softly.
Monee answered with another loud cry, opening her mouth wide and looking directly at her.
Mommy couldn’t help smiling at her expressive little girl, but she didn’t tease or scold her. Instead, she spoke calmly while finishing the necessary preparations for Monee’s meal.
“I hear you, sweetheart. Your lunch is being prepared.”
Monee continued making unhappy sounds. She looked at Mommy, then toward the place where her food usually appeared. Every second seemed to feel like an hour to the impatient little monkey!
Finally, Mommy returned with Monee’s appropriate lunch, prepared according to her dietary needs.
The moment Monee noticed the food, she stopped screaming for a moment and stared at it.
Her expression changed completely.
Just seconds earlier, she had been protesting as loudly as possible. Now, she was watching Mommy with intense concentration, as if she wanted to make absolutely certain that lunch was really happening.
Mommy made sure Monee was comfortably positioned and offered the food safely. She stayed nearby to supervise her throughout the meal.
Gradually, Monee settled down. Her loud complaints faded as she focused on eating. Her little hands relaxed, and her angry expression slowly disappeared.
Mommy smiled.
“See, little Monee? Mommy heard you!”
After lunch, Monee looked much more comfortable. She rested quietly beside Mommy, occasionally looking up at her with bright, curious eyes.
Mommy gently stroked her back and reminded herself that intense crying could signal hunger, discomfort, fear, or another need. She would continue responding promptly and paying attention to Monee’s behavior rather than assuming every outburst was simply a tantrum.
Soon, the little drama queen was calm again, as if her enormous lunchtime protest had never happened.
Mommy chuckled softly.
“My goodness, Monee! You certainly have a powerful voice!”
Monee made a tiny sound and settled into her cozy resting place.
Sometimes, little ones have big feelings and even bigger voices. The best response is patience, safe care, and making sure their real needs are met.
