Tiny baby Selena was having a very impatient morning. She had been sitting quietly for a little while, watching Mommy move around the room. At first, Selena seemed perfectly calm. But the longer Mommy took to come over, the more impatient the little monkey became.
Selena looked toward Mommy.
“Eeee… Mommy!”
Mommy heard her and smiled. “I’m coming, sweetheart.”
But Selena didn’t want to wait.
Her little face became serious, and she suddenly let out a deep, dramatic cry.
“AAAAAH! EEEEE!”
Mommy looked over in surprise.
“Oh my goodness, Selena! What happened?”
Selena stretched both tiny arms toward her and yelled again. Her voice echoed through the room as she rocked impatiently on her soft mat.
“Eeeee! Mommy! Mommy!”
She clearly had one message: she wanted Mommy right now.
Mommy continued what she was doing while staying close enough to supervise Selena safely.
“I know you’re waiting, little girl. Mommy hasn’t forgotten you.”
Selena wasn’t convinced.
She made another enormous cry and reached forward with both hands. Her tiny eyebrows were furrowed, and she looked completely offended that Mommy had made her wait.
“You really can’t wait today, can you?” Mommy asked with a gentle laugh.
Selena answered with another dramatic yell.
Then she paused.
She listened carefully.
Mommy was coming closer.
Selena’s eyes immediately brightened.
“There’s my impatient girl,” Mommy whispered.
Selena reached toward her as soon as Mommy came near. Once she was safely picked up, her loud cries quickly became little whimpers.
Mommy gently held her close.
“There you go. Mommy is here.”
Selena pressed her face against Mommy and wrapped her tiny arms around her. Her dramatic yelling slowly disappeared, replaced by quiet little sounds.
Mommy stroked her head.
“You had such a big voice for such a tiny baby.”
Selena gave one final squeak, as though she still wanted to complain about the waiting.
Mommy smiled.
“I know. Waiting is hard sometimes.”
Selena rested against her, finally calm.
The room became peaceful again. A few moments earlier, tiny Selena had been yelling as loudly as she could because she couldn’t wait for Mommy. Now she was warm, comfortable, and happily settled in Mommy’s arms.
Mommy kissed the top of her head.
“Next time, little Selena, give Mommy a moment.”
Selena closed her eyes.
But judging by that tiny mischievous expression, Mommy knew she probably wasn’t promising anything.
