Tiny Ronaldo was having an extremely emotional afternoon. He had been playing happily just moments earlier, but something suddenly changed his mood. When Mommy tried to guide him away from a place he shouldn’t be sitting, Ronaldo became stubborn and upset.
Instead of listening, he moved toward the wall and sat down, turning his little body away from Mommy.
“Ronaldo, sweetheart, please come back to your safe mat,” Mommy said gently.
Ronaldo refused.
He crossed his little arms and looked away.
Then his face began to crumple.
“Eeeee… EEEEE!”
His crying quickly became louder. Tears gathered in his eyes as he sat there, looking incredibly offended. It was as though he wanted Mommy to understand just how unhappy he was.
Mommy immediately moved closer.
“Oh, Ronaldo. You’re very upset, aren’t you?”
Ronaldo looked at her with watery eyes and let out another emotional cry.
But Mommy knew that sitting on or near a wall could be unsafe for a young monkey, especially during a tantrum when he might suddenly move or lose his balance. She stayed close and calmly encouraged him away from the wall rather than allowing him to remain there.
“Come on, little one. Let’s move somewhere safe.”
Ronaldo shook his head.
“No!”
He made another dramatic cry and turned his face away.
Mommy didn’t scold him. She simply stayed beside him and spoke calmly.
“I know you’re angry. You can be upset, but Mommy needs to keep you safe.”
Ronaldo’s eyes filled with even more tears.
He reached one tiny hand toward Mommy but quickly pulled it back, as if he were still trying to maintain his little protest.
Mommy offered her hand again.
“I’m right here.”
Ronaldo stared at it.
For several seconds, he didn’t move.
Then his tiny fingers slowly reached out and grabbed Mommy’s finger.
His crying immediately became softer.
“That’s it,” Mommy whispered. “Let’s go somewhere comfortable.”
With gentle guidance, Mommy helped Ronaldo move away from the wall and settle onto his soft, secure mat. Once he was safely there, she stayed beside him.
Ronaldo continued to sniffle.
His cheeks were damp with tears, and his little face still looked grumpy. But the anger was slowly disappearing.
Mommy gently wiped his tears.
“You don’t have to cry all by yourself, sweetheart.”
Ronaldo looked into her eyes.
Then he suddenly leaned forward and cuddled against her.
Mommy smiled and wrapped him in a gentle embrace.
“Oh, my emotional little boy.”
Ronaldo made one final tiny complaining sound before resting his head against her arm.
The huge tantrum was finally fading.
After a few quiet minutes, Ronaldo’s eyes became brighter. He looked around the room and then glanced back at Mommy as if checking whether she was still there.
She smiled.
“See? Mommy wasn’t going anywhere.”
Ronaldo gave a tiny squeak and settled comfortably beside her.
What had started with stubbornness, tears, and a dramatic wall-side tantrum ended peacefully. Ronaldo had been overwhelmed by his feelings, but with patient guidance and a safe place to calm down, his big emotions slowly became manageable again.
Mommy gently stroked his head.
“Next time, little Ronaldo, let’s skip the wall and come straight to Mommy.”
Ronaldo looked at her seriously for a moment.
Then he gave the tiniest sleepy smile.
