It was a quiet morning when tiny Jasmine sat alone in her room, looking unusually grumpy. Her little face was serious, and she seemed determined to have some private time. She had just woken up and clearly wasn’t ready for cuddles, games, or anyone fussing over her. When Mommy quietly came into the room to check on her, Jasmine immediately looked up with a tiny annoyed expression.

“Good morning, my little girl,” Mommy said softly.

Jasmine answered with a strange little fluttering sound.

“Eee… eee…”

Mommy smiled and moved closer, thinking Jasmine might want attention. But Jasmine quickly turned her head away. She made another soft but irritated sound and waved one tiny hand as though she were telling Mommy, “Not now!”

“Oh, Jasmine,” Mommy laughed gently. “Are you asking Mommy to give you some space?”

Jasmine looked back at her with wide eyes.

Then came another dramatic fluttering cry.

“Eeeeee!”

Her tiny eyebrows seemed to tighten as she sat there, looking completely offended. Mommy tried to offer her a gentle touch, but Jasmine turned away again. She wasn’t hurt, and she wasn’t in danger—she simply seemed to be in one of those stubborn little moods where she wanted to be left alone.

Mommy respected her signals while staying nearby to make sure she was safe.

“Okay, sweetheart,” Mommy whispered. “Mommy won’t bother you. I’ll stay close.”

Jasmine seemed satisfied with that answer.

She turned toward the other side of the room and sat quietly for a few moments. Her little fingers played with the edge of her blanket while Mommy remained nearby without crowding her. Every now and then, Jasmine glanced back to make sure Mommy was still there.

Then she made another tiny fluttering sound.

Mommy smiled but didn’t approach.

“You have something to say, don’t you?”

Jasmine stared at her.

For a moment, it looked as though she might start another dramatic complaint. Instead, she slowly crawled across her soft mat and settled down. Her angry expression began to fade.

Mommy continued speaking softly from a comfortable distance. “You can have your quiet time, little Jasmine. Mommy is right here whenever you need me.”

That seemed to reassure her.

After a while, Jasmine’s curiosity returned. She looked toward Mommy again, then slowly moved closer. Mommy held out one finger, allowing Jasmine to decide whether she wanted contact.

Jasmine touched it.

Then she climbed into Mommy’s lap.

Mommy laughed softly. “Oh! So the little princess doesn’t want Mommy after all?”

Jasmine immediately cuddled against her as if the earlier tantrum had never happened.

Mommy gently stroked her head. “You just needed a little space, didn’t you?”

Jasmine gave a tiny satisfied sound and rested her cheek against Mommy’s hand.

Her dramatic morning mood was finally over. What had begun with an angry little voice and a very serious request for privacy ended with Jasmine choosing cuddles all by herself.

Mommy smiled and held her gently.

“Whenever you need quiet time, sweetheart, Mommy will give you space. And whenever you want a cuddle, Mommy will be right here.”

Jasmine closed her eyes peacefully, apparently deciding that Mommy could stay after all.
