Little Taki was in an especially moody mood today.
Daddy had prepared everything to gently clean the tiny baby monkey, making sure the area was warm, safe, and comfortable. Taki had been peaceful just moments earlier, but the moment he realized Daddy was about to clean him, his little face suddenly changed.
“Eeeee! Eeeee! EEEEE!”
Taki screamed loudly.
Daddy paused and looked at him.
“Oh, Taki! What’s wrong, little boy?”
Taki answered with another enormous cry. His tiny hands waved around, and he squirmed restlessly as if he wanted to make one thing very clear: he did not want to be cleaned right now!
Daddy spoke softly.
“I know you don’t like this, sweetheart. Daddy is right here.”
But Taki was not interested in listening.
“Eeee! Eeee!”
His little face looked so angry and emotional that Daddy couldn’t help smiling sympathetically. He slowed down and made sure Taki was securely supported rather than forcing him through the cleaning.
“Let’s take it slowly,” Daddy whispered.
For a moment, Taki became quiet.
He looked directly at Daddy.
Then Daddy gently continued.
“EEEEEE!”
Taki immediately started protesting again.
Daddy stopped once more.
“Okay, okay. I heard you!”
Taki’s tiny hands reached toward Daddy as though asking to be comforted. Daddy gently reassured him and gave him a moment to settle.
Because Taki was very young, Daddy knew that cleaning needed to be gentle, brief, and appropriate for his age and species. If the baby became unusually distressed, Daddy would stop and seek advice from a qualified veterinarian or wildlife-care professional rather than forcing the process.
After Taki had calmed down a little, Daddy carefully finished the necessary cleaning. He kept any cleansing product away from Taki’s eyes, nose, and mouth and rinsed appropriately so nothing remained on his fur.
Finally, Daddy announced:
“All done!”
Taki stopped crying.
He looked at Daddy suspiciously.
Daddy smiled.
“Yes, little troublemaker. It’s finished.”
Taki still looked offended.
Daddy gently wrapped him in a clean, soft towel and carefully dried his fur. The tiny monkey continued making quiet complaining noises, as though he was giving Daddy a full report about everything he disliked.
“I know,” Daddy said. “You didn’t enjoy your cleaning session.”
Taki slowly relaxed.
His angry expression began to disappear, and he rested against Daddy’s hand.
Daddy gently stroked his back.
“There you go, Taki. You’re warm and clean now.”
Taki made one tiny sound.
“Eee…”
Daddy laughed softly.
“That doesn’t sound like a thank-you.”
Taki closed his eyes.
His huge tantrum had finally run out of energy.
Daddy settled him in a warm, secure resting place and stayed nearby while the tiny baby became comfortable.
A few minutes earlier, Taki had been screaming as though the whole world had betrayed him.
Now he was quiet and sleepy.
Daddy smiled and whispered, “You can be moody, little Taki. Daddy understands. But next time, maybe we can make cleaning a little less dramatic.”
Taki gave one final sleepy squeak.
Then he curled up peacefully.
The cleaning was finished, the tantrum was over, and the tiny monkey was finally comfortable again.
Sometimes a baby’s biggest scream simply means, “I don’t like this!”
And sometimes the best response is patience, gentle care, and a little extra reassurance.
