The afternoon was peaceful when little Ronaldo sat on a soft blanket near the house. Mom had stepped away for just a moment to prepare his things, leaving Dad nearby to watch him.
Ronaldo looked toward the doorway.
Mom wasn’t there.
He slowly tried to stand, holding onto the edge of a low, sturdy surface for support.
At first, he seemed curious.
But when he wobbled, his little face suddenly became frightened.
“Mama…”
His voice trembled.
He looked down at his feet and became nervous that he might fall.
His eyes quickly filled with tears.
“WAAAAAH!”
Ronaldo reached both tiny arms toward the doorway, calling desperately for Mom.
Dad immediately moved closer and made sure Ronaldo was safely supported.
“It’s okay, little one. Daddy is right here.”
But Ronaldo kept crying.
He wanted Mommy.
He didn’t feel brave without her nearby.
Just then, Mom heard his cries and hurried back.
“My baby!”
The moment Ronaldo saw her, he reached toward her with both arms.
Mom carefully picked him up and held him close.
“Oh, sweetheart. Mommy is here.”
Ronaldo buried his face against her shoulder and cried softly.
Mom gently rubbed his back.
“You’re safe. You don’t have to be scared.”
His little fingers tightly gripped her shirt.
Dad smiled.
“He got frightened when he lost his balance.”
Mom kissed Ronaldo’s forehead.
“Next time, we’ll practice together. You never have to rush.”
Ronaldo slowly calmed down.
Mom kept him safely in her arms for a while before placing him back on the soft blanket.
This time, she stayed right beside him.
Ronaldo looked up at her.
He took one tiny step.
Then another.
Mom smiled proudly.
“That’s it. I’m right here.”
Ronaldo’s nervous expression slowly changed into a little smile.
He realized he could practice safely as long as Mom stayed close.
Afterward, Mom cuddled him again.
Ronaldo rested his head against her chest, finally feeling peaceful.
Mom whispered, “Whenever you’re learning something new, sweetheart, we’ll take it slowly and safely together.”
Ronaldo gave a tiny happy squeak.
His earlier tears were gone.
He had been frightened by the thought of falling while Mommy was away, but now he knew something important: he didn’t have to face new challenges alone.
