The morning was peaceful until a surprisingly loud cry echoed through the house.
“Mama! Mama!”
Little Selena was sitting on a soft blanket, watching Mom prepare to leave the room for a moment.
The instant Selena realized Mom was walking away, her tiny face changed.
Her eyes grew wide.
Her little lips opened.
Then came an enormous scream.
“WAAAAAAAH!”
Mom stopped immediately and turned around.
“Oh, Selena! What happened?”
Selena stretched both tiny arms toward her, desperately calling for attention.
“Mama! Come back!”
She didn’t want toys.
She didn’t want her blanket.
She didn’t want anyone else.
She wanted Mom to take her along.
Dad walked over and tried to make her laugh.
But Selena simply looked at him and pointed toward Mom.
Her message was perfectly clear.
“Mommy, take me with you!”
Mom couldn’t help smiling.
She walked back and knelt beside her little girl.
“Do you want to come with Mommy?”
Selena immediately stopped crying for a second.
Her eyes brightened.
She reached both arms toward Mom.
Mom gently picked her up and held her against her chest.
The dramatic screaming instantly turned into tiny happy squeaks.
“There you are,” Mom whispered. “You just didn’t want Mommy to leave you behind.”
Selena wrapped her little arms around Mom’s neck and held on tightly.
Mom kissed her forehead.
“Okay, my little shadow. You can come with Mommy.”
Selena looked incredibly pleased.
Dad laughed softly.
“She got exactly what she wanted.”
Mom smiled.
“Sometimes she just needs to know she’s included.”
As Mom carried Selena around the house, the little girl happily looked over her shoulder at everything they passed.
Her tears were completely gone.
Every few moments, she hugged Mom a little tighter, as though making sure she wouldn’t be left behind again.
Later, Mom sat down with Selena in her lap and gave her a warm bottle.
Selena drank peacefully while resting against her mother’s chest.
Her earlier dramatic scream seemed like a distant memory.
When the bottle was empty, she gave a tiny satisfied sigh and gently touched Mom’s cheek.
Mom smiled lovingly.
“You don’t have to scream so loudly next time, sweetheart. Just reach for Mommy.”
Selena answered with a tiny happy sound before resting her head against Mom.
The morning continued peacefully, with Selena safely beside the person she wanted most.
For such a tiny baby, being taken along wasn’t really about where Mom was going.
It was about one simple feeling:
She just wanted to be close to Mom.
