The afternoon was warm and peaceful as Mom carried little A Tong in her loving arms around the house.
Nestled against her chest, A Tong felt perfectly safe.
He listened to the familiar rhythm of Mom’s heartbeat while gently holding onto her shirt with his tiny fingers.
For him, there was no happier place in the world.
But Mom still had chores to finish.
She needed both hands to prepare A Tong’s fresh bottle of milk and organize his clean clothes.
“Just stay here for a minute, my little sweetheart,” she whispered with a smile.
She gently placed A Tong on a large, soft towel spread across a sturdy table beside her so she could keep him nearby while she worked.
At first, A Tong looked around curiously.
He watched Mom move across the room.
She was only a few steps away.
But she wasn’t holding him anymore.
His tiny smile slowly disappeared.
He looked at Mom.
Then at his empty little hands.
Then back at Mom again.
His lips began to tremble.
A tiny whimper escaped his mouth.
“Eee…”
Mom turned and smiled reassuringly.
“I’m still here, A Tong.”
But to the little monkey, being close wasn’t the same as being cuddled.
Within seconds, his quiet whimper turned into a loud, dramatic cry.
“WAAAAAH!”
Tiny tears rolled down his fluffy cheeks as he stretched both little arms toward Mom.
When she didn’t pick him up immediately, A Tong became even more dramatic.
He rolled from one side of the towel to the other, kicking his little feet and waving his tiny hands through the air.
His loud cries echoed throughout the room.
Dad peeked around the doorway and chuckled softly.
“Our little actor has started today’s performance.”
Mom couldn’t help smiling.
“He really doesn’t like being put down.”
A Tong rolled onto his back again and looked at Mom with the saddest expression he could possibly make.
It was as if he was saying, “Mom, the table is not as comfortable as your arms!”
Mom finished preparing the bottle as quickly as she could before walking back to him.
“My poor little boy.”
The moment she gently lifted him into her arms, everything changed.
The loud cries stopped almost instantly.
A Tong wrapped both tiny arms around Mom’s neck and buried his face against her shoulder.
He let out one long, peaceful sigh.
Mom softly rubbed his back.
“There you are.”
“You just wanted cuddles.”
Dad laughed.
“I don’t think he was angry.”
“I think he simply missed his favorite place.”
Mom nodded.
“My arms are his safe place.”
After a few moments of cuddling, Mom offered A Tong his warm bottle of milk.
He eagerly drank while remaining safely nestled against her chest.
With every sip, his little body relaxed even more.
Soon, his tears had completely disappeared.
His tiny eyelids became heavy.
Before falling asleep, A Tong looked up at Mom and gently touched her cheek with one little hand.
Mom smiled lovingly and kissed his forehead.
“You’ll always have a place in my arms, my precious boy.”
As the afternoon sunlight gently filled the room, A Tong drifted into a peaceful sleep, comforted by the warmth of Mom’s embrace.
The dramatic tears, rolling, and loud cries were already forgotten.
All that remained was a tiny baby monkey with a full tummy, sleepy eyes, and the comforting feeling that no matter where Mom needed to go, she would always come back to hold him again.
Sometimes, the greatest comfort for a little heart isn’t a toy or a bottle of milk.
It’s simply being wrapped in the loving arms of someone who makes the whole world feel safe.
