The afternoon sun cast a warm glow through the bedroom window as little Pavpav slowly opened his sleepy eyes.
He had taken a much longer nap than usual.
Still wrapped in his favorite soft blanket, Pavpav stretched his tiny arms and let out a little yawn. For a moment, everything felt peaceful.
Then he looked around.
The room was quiet.
His toys were beside him.
The curtains gently swayed in the breeze.
But there was one person he couldn’t find.
Mom.
Pavpav blinked several times, hoping she would suddenly appear with her familiar smile.
She didn’t.
His tiny smile slowly faded.
He looked toward the bedroom door.
No Mom.
He crawled to the edge of his little mattress and peeked into the hallway.
Still no Mom.
A worried expression spread across his little face.
His lips trembled.
His bright eyes filled with tears.
“Mama…”
Only a tiny squeak escaped his mouth.
When nobody answered immediately, fear quickly filled his little heart.
“WAAAAAH!”
His loud cries echoed throughout the house.
He stretched both tiny arms toward the doorway, calling for the only person who always made him feel safe.
Downstairs, Mom was folding freshly washed clothes while preparing Pavpav’s afternoon bottle of warm milk.
The moment she heard his cries, she dropped the towel she was holding.
“My baby!”
She hurried upstairs as fast as she could.
Dad smiled as he watched her rush past.
“I think someone just woke up.”
Mom entered the room and immediately saw Pavpav sitting on the bed with tears rolling down his fluffy cheeks.
The moment Pavpav saw her, he cried even harder.
He reached both little arms toward her as if saying, “Don’t leave me again!”
Mom quickly scooped him into her arms.
“I’m here, sweetheart,” she whispered, kissing his forehead.
“I only went downstairs for a little while.”
Pavpav buried his tiny face against her shoulder and wrapped both little arms tightly around her neck.
He refused to let go.
Mom gently rocked him back and forth while softly rubbing his back.
“It’s okay.”
“Mommy always comes back.”
Slowly, Pavpav’s loud sobs became quiet sniffles.
His breathing steadied as he listened to the comforting rhythm of Mom’s heartbeat.
Just then, Dad walked into the room carrying Pavpav’s favorite stuffed bunny.
“Look who’s waiting for you.”
Pavpav peeked through his tears and smiled faintly.
He accepted the toy with one hand but kept the other wrapped tightly around Mom.
Mom laughed softly.
“So today you need double cuddles.”
Pavpav answered with a tiny happy squeak.
After a few minutes, Mom carried him downstairs and gave him his warm bottle of milk.
He drank peacefully while sitting safely in her lap.
His full tummy, warm bottle, and Mommy’s gentle embrace quickly chased away every bit of fear.
As the afternoon became quiet once more, Pavpav rested his sleepy head against Mom’s chest.
She gently stroked his soft fur and whispered, “Even if you wake up and don’t see me right away, remember this, my precious boy—I am always nearby, and I will always come when you call.”
Pavpav closed his eyes with a peaceful smile.
His frightening moment was over.
Wrapped safely in Mom’s loving arms, he drifted back to sleep, comforted by the warmth, security, and unconditional love that surrounded him every single day.
For little Pavpav, there was no sweeter place in the world than the comforting embrace of the person who would always answer his cries.
