Richard’s smile faltered, but he quickly recovered. “Lucas, we were only looking out for you and the family’s interests. Emma is… unpredictable. We had to take precautions.”
“Precautions?” Lucas spat the word. “Falsifying documents, sending a fake nurse, making her think she’s alone? That’s not precaution; it’s betrayal.”
Richard opened the folder, revealing papers that Lucas instantly recognized as the ones Emma had mentioned. “These were supposed to be signed by you. For the baby’s safety.”
Lucas shook his head, fury boiling inside him. “I never signed those. And I won’t. Emma is my wife, the mother of my child, and I will protect them.”
Richard’s expression turned cold. “Think carefully, Lucas. Your decisions affect the entire Bennett legacy.”
Lucas leaned forward, his voice low but firm. “I don’t care about the legacy. I care about my family. And if you or anyone else tries to harm them again, you’ll regret it.”
