The fresh air filled the space, and soft sunlight warmed the ground.
Everything outside felt open and new—
But little Selena wasn’t ready.
She clung tightly to Mom, her tiny arms wrapped around her neck, refusing to let go. The outdoor ground looked unfamiliar, too wide, too different from the comfort she knew.
Mom smiled patiently. “It’s okay, Selena… let’s try playing here.”
She gently lowered her down onto the ground.
For one second, Selena stayed still.
Feeling the grass.
Seeing the open space.
Then—
“AHHHHH!”
She cried loudly, her tiny face turning red as she reached both arms up again. She didn’t want the ground.
She wanted Mom.
Only Mom.
Her little hands stretched desperately, her body leaning forward, asking to be picked up immediately.
Mom sat down beside her instead of lifting her right away.
“I’m here,” she said softly.
She picked up a small leaf and showed it to Selena, moving it gently to catch her attention. The sunlight made it glow, dancing slightly in the breeze.
Selena paused.
Still teary.
Still unsure.
But curious.
Her cries softened into little sniffles as she looked around—the grass, the light, the soft sounds of the outside world.
Mom stayed close, never leaving her side.
Slowly… Selena reached out.
First to the leaf.
Then to the ground.
Then she touched it again.
No more screaming.
Just quiet exploring.
Mom smiled and gently encouraged her.
Because sometimes, even a brave little baby needs time to trust a new place—
And the safest way to explore the world is knowing Mom is right there beside you.
