The basket rocked gently, lined with soft cloth and morning light. Inside, little Linda lay curled up, her tiny body perfectly still.
Eyes closed.
Completely quiet.
Too quiet.
From a distance, she looked like she had fallen into a peaceful nap. Her chest rose and fell slowly, her hands resting neatly as if she hadn’t a single care in the world.
But Linda wasn’t sleeping.
Not really.
She was waiting.
Earlier, she had seen it—the ripe avocado. Soft, green, and absolutely irresistible. She wanted it more than anything. But instead of asking again, she came up with her own little plan.
Be still.
Be quiet.
Maybe… Mom will bring it.
So she stayed there, eyes shut tight, holding her expression as seriously as she could. Every now and then, one tiny finger twitched—but she quickly stopped, trying not to ruin her act.
Footsteps approached.
Linda didn’t move.
Not even a little.
A soft voice came closer. “Hmm… is someone sleeping?” Mom teased gently.
Still nothing.
Linda stayed frozen, though inside, her excitement bubbled. She could almost feel it—the avocado getting closer.
Then—
A faint smell.
Fresh. Creamy.
Right near her.
Her nose twitched slightly.
Her act was slipping.
Mom chuckled softly, holding the avocado just above her. “I wonder who this is for…”
That was it.
Linda’s eyes popped open instantly.
She sat up with sudden energy, reaching out eagerly with both hands. No more pretending, no more waiting—just pure excitement.
Her little plan had worked.
Because sometimes, even a tiny bit of mischief can lead to a very tasty reward—and Linda knew exactly how to play her part.
