Spoiled Tears: Selena’s Angry Wait

Comments Off on Spoiled Tears: Selena’s Angry Wait

Selena’s cry broke the quiet the moment Mom placed her down to wait. It wasn’t a soft whimper or a sleepy complaint. It was a spoiled, angry cry filled with protest and disbelief. Her wide eyes stared up at Mom as if asking how this could possibly be happening to her. Waiting was unacceptable. Waiting was unfair.

She kicked her little feet and threw her hands into the air, voice rising higher with every second. Selena was used to being held, soothed instantly, and given attention the moment she asked. Now, sitting alone, time felt cruel and endless. Her lips trembled, and tears streamed down her cheeks as she screamed louder, demanding to be picked up immediately.

Mom tried to explain gently, using calm words and soft movements. But Selena refused to listen. She turned her head away in dramatic defiance, crying even harder. Her tiny body shook with frustration, and her chest rose and fell quickly. Every sound she made carried anger, sadness, and a deep need for comfort.

She glanced toward Mom again, eyes glossy and pleading, then cried louder when Mom didn’t move right away. Selena slapped her hands on the floor, showing just how upset she was. In her small world, being made to wait felt like being forgotten. Her spoiled heart couldn’t understand patience yet.

Minutes passed slowly. Selena’s cries began to crack, turning from sharp screams into broken sobs. Her strength faded, and her body slumped slightly. Still, she refused to give up completely. One last loud cry escaped her, as if hoping that would finally work.

At last, Mom reached out and lifted her into warm arms. Selena instantly quieted, clinging tightly, burying her face into Mom’s chest. Her tears soaked in as her breathing slowed. The anger disappeared, replaced by relief. She had won, but more importantly, she felt safe again. In Mom’s arms, waiting no longer mattered at all.
