The sky darkened without warning, and within minutes the quiet afternoon turned into a seasonal downpour. Little twin baby monkeys Selena and Ronaldo had been playing outside, chasing each other across the yard, when the first cold drops began to fall. At first, they didn’t understand what was happening. Both paused, small faces lifting to the sky, blinking as the drizzle turned into heavy rain.
Ronaldo was the first to panic. He let out a loud, trembling squeak, tiny arms reaching desperately for someone to come save him. Cold water splashed down his short fur, and he began hopping nervously in place, crying louder and louder. His sister Selena, usually more confident, also began to tremble as the wind pushed rain against her tiny body. She looked around for Dad, eyes full of worry, her lips quivering.
The ground quickly turned muddy beneath their little feet, and Selena slipped, tumbling onto her bottom. That was enough to make her burst into full tears. Ronaldo rushed to her, hugging her from behind, both crying together under the rain, shaking from the cold and fear.
Inside the house, Dad heard the desperate cries and rushed out, shocked to see the twins soaked, huddled together in panic. He scooped them up immediately, wrapping his shirt around them like a makeshift blanket. Ronaldo clung to his chest, still whimpering, while Selena buried her face into his shoulder, refusing to let go.
Dad carried them inside to the warm room and gently dried their tiny bodies with a soft towel. Their crying slowly faded into soft hiccups, their fingers still clutching his hand. When they were warm and safe, he gave them warm milk to soothe their shaken hearts.
The rain still hammered outside, but now the twins were peaceful, snuggled together in Dad’s lap—safe, dry, and comforted.
In that moment, they learned something little monkeys never forget: even storms feel small when someone they love is holding them close.
