It was getting late, and the sun had already begun to dip behind the trees. Most of the baby monkeys were winding down, following their moms back to their nests or cuddle spots. But not baby monkey Yuri.
She was in full rebellion mode.
From across the field, Mommy called gently, “Yuri, come on, it’s time to go home!” Her voice was patient but firm.
Yuri froze for a moment, looked back at her mom, and then—let out a scream so loud the birds flew off nearby branches.
“EEEK! EEEEK!!”
She stomped her tiny feet, flailed her arms, and sat down stubbornly right where she was.
Mom tried again. “Yuri! Let’s go!”
But Yuri was having none of it. She wanted to stay, play, and do things her own way.
She started yelling even louder, making angry little sounds like she was scolding her mom right back. Her baby face was filled with defiance, and her tail curled tight behind her as she made her stand.
Nearby monkeys turned their heads at the drama. Some snickered; others just kept walking.
Finally, Mom walked over—calm, strong, and knowing her daughter’s stubborn streak all too well. She gently picked Yuri up, despite the little one still kicking and fussing.
As soon as Yuri was back in her mom’s arms, her body softened. Her head rested against Mom’s chest, and the wild screaming faded into soft sniffles.
