Luna Hides Head in Mud Scared of Rain

The skies above the forest turned grey, rumbling softly like a warning drum. Little Luna, the baby monkey, had been happily digging in the soft earth, playing with twigs and chasing falling leaves. But the sudden shift in the air made her freeze. A loud crack of thunder echoed—and that’s when the first raindrop hit her tiny nose.

Startled, Luna squeaked and darted toward the nearest muddy patch. Instead of running to shelter like the other monkeys, Luna had a different idea.

She dropped down and tucked her tiny head into the muddy soil, hoping if she couldn’t see the rain, maybe it would just go away.

Her little bottom stuck up in the air, tail twitching, and her head hidden under her muddy paws. The rain began falling heavier, droplets splashing across her back, but Luna didn’t budge. Her whole body trembled slightly from fear and confusion.

Nearby, her mom called for her gently, “Luna… come here, baby!” But Luna only gave a low whimper from the mud, too afraid to move. Her fluffy face was now streaked with dirt and her ears twitched with every raindrop that hit the ground.

It wasn’t long before Mom found her, gently scooping her up despite the mud sticking everywhere. “You silly girl,” she whispered, hugging her close.

Luna clung to her mother’s chest, burying her face in the warm fur she knew so well. Safe now from the scary sky, her heartbeat slowly calmed.

Back in their little shelter, Mom cleaned her off with patient licks and soft humming. Luna, finally relaxed, peeked out at the rain through the leaves—but this time from the comfort of her mom’s arms.

Not so scary now, she thought.
