Tiny baby Lily sat quietly in the corner of the enclosure, her little arms wrapped around her knees. Her fur was slightly ruffled, and her wide eyes scanned the space where her mother, Libby, was playing—completely ignoring her.
Libby, strong and spirited, groomed another young monkey nearby, but never once glanced back at Lily. It had been this way for days. No snuggles, no soft touches—just cold distance. And for a baby like Lily, who craved love and warmth, it was a world of confusion and sadness.
Lily had tried everything. She had squeaked, reached out, even followed Libby from one corner to the next. But every time, she was pushed aside, left behind, or simply ignored.
This morning was the hardest of all.
Libby had been in a playful mood, wrestling gently with another young monkey. Lily thought it was finally her turn. With a hopeful little leap, she ran over to join in. But instead of being welcomed, Libby snapped at her—pushing her away sharply.
Lily fell onto the grass with a soft thud, letting out a small, heart-wrenching cry. She didn’t understand. Why did everyone else get Mom’s love, and not her?
The caretakers nearby watched with heavy hearts. One knelt down and gently picked Lily up, holding her close to offer the comfort she was so desperately missing.
Lily melted into the arms, burying her face in the warmth of a kind chest. For a moment, she found peace—a tiny break from the pain of rejection.
It’s not always easy being a baby monkey in the wild or in rescue care. And for Lily, the hardest part wasn’t hunger or cold… it was simply not being loved by the one she needed most.
