Baby Chamroeun was having a lazy morning, and he had absolutely no plans to do anything that required effort. He was sitting comfortably beside Dad, looking around with his curious little eyes while Dad prepared everything for their morning routine. Dad had a different idea, though. He wanted Chamroeun to practice moving around safely and building his confidence.
“Come on, Chamroeun! Let’s try a few little steps today,” Dad encouraged, holding out his hands.
Chamroeun stared at Dad as if he had just heard the most ridiculous suggestion in the world. Walk? Right now? Why would he do that when sitting comfortably was so much easier?
Dad smiled and gently encouraged him again. “Come here, little buddy. You can do it!”
But Chamroeun immediately turned away. He lowered his body onto the soft blanket and refused to cooperate. When Dad moved a little closer, Chamroeun made a grumpy little sound and looked toward the other side of the room.
Dad chuckled. “Oh, so you don’t want to practice today?”
Chamroeun seemed perfectly happy with that decision. He had already made up his mind: walking could wait!
Then something caught his attention.
Dad had placed his milk nearby while getting things ready. Chamroeun noticed the container and suddenly became much more interested in what Dad was doing. His eyes followed Dad’s movements, and he slowly began inching closer.
Dad was busy arranging the blanket and didn’t immediately notice his little companion’s plan.
Chamroeun stretched out his tiny hand toward the milk.
“Hey, what are you doing over there?” Dad asked when he finally noticed.
Chamroeun froze for a second, looking completely innocent. Then he reached toward the milk again, determined to investigate this interesting discovery.
Dad gently moved it out of reach. “Ah-ah, little troublemaker! That’s Dad’s milk, not yours!”
Chamroeun looked up at him with wide eyes. He seemed genuinely surprised that his clever plan had been discovered. He made a little complaining sound and reached toward Dad as if asking why he couldn’t have it.
Dad laughed softly. “First, you refuse to practice walking. Then you try to steal my milk! What am I going to do with you?”
Chamroeun answered with a playful babble, apparently offering no explanation whatsoever.
Dad put the milk somewhere safe and brought Chamroeun’s own suitable drink, prepared according to his age and care needs. He made sure Chamroeun was sitting comfortably and supervised him while he drank. The little monkey soon forgot all about Dad’s milk and focused happily on his own.
Afterward, Dad offered him another chance to practice moving on the soft, nonslip surface. This time, he didn’t pressure Chamroeun or force him to stand. Instead, he encouraged him gently and let him explore at his own pace.
Chamroeun looked at Dad, then at the blanket, and finally reached toward his favorite toy.
Dad smiled. “Alright, little buddy. We’ll keep practicing when you’re ready!”
Chamroeun happily grabbed his toy, seemingly convinced that he had won the morning’s battle.
Dad shook his head with a smile. His little companion might be stubborn, curious, and full of mischief, but every day brought another chance to learn together.
And one thing was certain: Chamroeun might not be ready to walk on Dad’s schedule, but he was always ready to investigate anything Dad left within reach!
