Tiny Ronaldo woke up that morning with a very strong opinion about everything. He wanted to move around, explore, and do whatever he pleased. Mommy, however, wanted him to sit safely on his soft mat for a little while. The moment she gently guided him toward his sitting spot, Ronaldo’s expression changed.

He closed his eyes tightly.

His little face became completely serious.

“Ronaldo, sweetheart, please sit here for Mommy,” she said gently.

Ronaldo immediately shook his head.

“No, no!”

Then he began his dramatic performance.

He squeezed his eyes shut even tighter and made a loud, frustrated cry. His tiny hands waved around while he tried to move away from the spot Mommy had chosen.

“Eeeee! Aaaah!”

Mommy looked at him and smiled. “Oh my goodness, Ronaldo. Are we having a big tantrum this morning?”

Ronaldo kept his eyes closed.

He clearly didn’t want to hear it.

Mommy stayed calm and made sure he was sitting in a safe area where he couldn’t fall or hurt himself. She didn’t force him down. Instead, she gently encouraged him to settle while giving him a moment to express his frustration.

“It’s okay to be upset,” Mommy said softly. “But we still need to stay safe.”

Ronaldo opened one eye.

He looked at Mommy.

Then he quickly closed it again.

Mommy almost laughed.

“Oh! I saw that little eye!”

Ronaldo made another angry squeak and turned his face away.

He seemed determined to prove that he was the boss of the morning.

Mommy remained patient. She stayed nearby and offered her hand for him to hold. Ronaldo ignored it at first, but after a few seconds, his tiny fingers slowly reached toward hers.

Mommy gently held his hand.

“There you go. Mommy isn’t angry with you.”

Ronaldo’s crying became quieter.

He still looked grumpy, but his body began to relax. Mommy continued speaking calmly while encouraging him to sit comfortably on the soft mat. She gave him time rather than turning the moment into a struggle.

Finally, Ronaldo opened both eyes.

He looked around.

Then he looked directly at Mommy.

His dramatic expression had softened.

“Good job,” Mommy whispered. “That’s much better.”

Ronaldo gave a tiny grumbling sound, as though he still wanted to complain about the whole situation. But he remained safely seated, holding Mommy’s finger.

Mommy smiled.

“You can have big feelings, little Ronaldo. But Mommy will help you calm down.”

Ronaldo leaned slightly against her hand.

The queen of drama—or perhaps the king of drama—had finally surrendered.

A few minutes earlier, he had been closing his eyes, screaming, and refusing to sit. Now he was quietly sitting on his soft mat, looking much more peaceful.

Mommy gently stroked his head.

“See? Sitting wasn’t so terrible after all.”

Ronaldo gave one tiny squeak and looked away, as if he absolutely refused to admit Mommy was right.

Mommy laughed softly.

His tantrum was over, but his personality was still very much there. Tiny Ronaldo had learned that morning that he could express his feelings without fighting, while Mommy had once again shown him that patience and gentle guidance could turn even the biggest little drama into a peaceful moment.
