Tiny Tourtour was the smallest baby in the room, and that morning, he was already awake before everyone else. He sat quietly on his soft blanket, looking toward the door where Mommy usually appeared with his morning milk. His little eyes were still sleepy, but his tiny belly was beginning to feel hungry. Every few seconds, Tourtour lifted his head and listened carefully. Whenever he heard a sound outside, he became excited, thinking Mommy might finally be coming.
“Mommy… milk,” he seemed to whisper in his own tiny way.
But the room remained quiet.
Tourtour tried his best to wait patiently. He sat upright with his tiny hands resting beside him, staring at the doorway. Then he leaned forward a little, as though getting ready to crawl closer. But his small body was still unsteady after waking up, and while he shifted his weight, he suddenly lost his balance. His little feet slipped forward, and Tourtour gently fell backward onto the soft blanket.
He looked completely surprised.
For a moment, he simply lay there with his eyes wide open. Then his tiny lower lip began to tremble. “Eee… eee…” he cried softly, looking toward the door. It was not a hard fall because the blanket had cushioned him, but the surprise and frustration made him feel miserable. He lifted his little arms as if asking Mommy to come quickly.
Just then, Mommy heard his cry and hurried into the room.
“Oh, my tiny Tourtour!” she said, immediately kneeling beside him. She gently checked him to make sure he was comfortable and had not been hurt. Once she saw that he was moving normally, Mommy carefully helped him sit upright again. Tourtour immediately reached both arms toward her and pressed his little face against her hand.
“You were waiting for your milk all by yourself?” Mommy asked softly.
Tourtour answered with a tiny whimper.
Mommy cuddled him for a moment before preparing his appropriate milk feeding. She knew that a baby monkey’s diet depends on his species, age, and professional care plan, so she followed the feeding guidance provided for him rather than giving him unsuitable food. While she prepared the bottle, Tourtour kept watching her with enormous hopeful eyes.
The moment he saw the bottle, his entire expression changed.
His crying stopped.
His little arms stretched forward, and he became suddenly impatient. Mommy smiled and gently brought the bottle to him, making sure he was held safely and comfortably while feeding. Tourtour drank eagerly, pausing occasionally to breathe and settle. His tiny hands wrapped around Mommy’s fingers as if he were afraid she might disappear again.
“There you go, sweetheart. Mommy is here,” she whispered.
As his hungry tummy slowly became satisfied, Tourtour’s body relaxed. His eyes became softer, and his little head rested against Mommy. The earlier accident seemed forgotten. After finishing his appropriate feeding, he gave one tiny satisfied sound and cuddled closer.
Mommy gently stroked his back. “Next time, don’t try to sit all by yourself when you’re still sleepy, little one.”
Tourtour blinked at her, then tucked his face against her arm.
The smallest baby in the room had started his morning with hunger, impatience, and one tiny tumble—but he ended it warm, comforted, and safely in Mommy’s loving arms.
