The early morning light gently slipped through the window as tiny baby monkey Linda slowly woke up from her sleep. She remained curled inside her soft blanket, looking sleepy and a little confused. Her tiny eyes opened and closed several times before she heard Mommy moving nearby. As soon as Linda recognized the familiar voice, she made a soft little sound and stretched her arms toward her. Mommy smiled immediately. “Good morning, little Linda. Are you hungry?” she whispered. Linda answered with another quiet squeak and wiggled excitedly under the blanket.
Mommy carefully picked Linda up and held her close for a moment. The tiny monkey rested her head against Mommy’s chest, still looking half-asleep. After making sure Linda was warm, comfortable, and alert, Mommy began preparing her morning food. Today, she had a small serving of plain yogurt that was considered appropriate for Linda’s species and age under professional wildlife or veterinary guidance. Mommy knew that baby monkeys have very specific nutritional needs, so the yogurt was only an appropriate part of Linda’s diet rather than a replacement for her proper milk or formula feeding.
When Mommy placed the little dish nearby, Linda immediately became curious. She leaned forward and sniffed the yogurt carefully. Then she made a funny little face and turned away. Mommy laughed softly. “Oh, Linda, you don’t like it?” she teased gently. Linda glanced back at the dish, slowly leaned forward again, and took the tiniest taste. She froze for a second as if trying to decide what she thought about it.
Then Linda licked her lips.
Mommy smiled. “Oh! Maybe you like it after all!”
Linda moved closer and carefully took another tiny taste. This time she seemed much more interested. Her little fingers rested on the edge of the dish while she explored the new texture. Mommy stayed right beside her, making sure Linda did not rush and allowing her to eat at her own pace. Every few moments, Linda looked up at Mommy, almost as though she wanted reassurance that she was doing everything correctly.
“You’re doing so well, sweetheart,” Mommy whispered.
Linda continued eating tiny portions, becoming more confident with every taste. Her little ears moved whenever Mommy spoke, and her bright eyes seemed much more awake now. The quiet room slowly filled with tiny eating sounds and Mommy’s gentle encouragement. It was such a simple breakfast, but to Mommy, these little moments were precious.
After she had eaten an appropriate amount, Linda suddenly became playful. She wiped her tiny mouth with one hand and reached toward Mommy’s fingers with the other. Mommy pretended to pull her hand away, and Linda immediately grabbed for it again. Her earlier sleepy expression had completely disappeared.
“You’re feeling better now, aren’t you?” Mommy asked.
Linda answered with a tiny squeak before climbing closer into her arms.
Mommy gently checked her over, making sure Linda was comfortable and showing no signs of distress. Then she wrapped the soft blanket around her again. Linda settled against Mommy’s chest, warm and satisfied, occasionally looking toward the little dish as if wondering whether breakfast might come back.
Mommy kissed the top of her head and whispered, “One step at a time, my little girl.”
Linda slowly closed her eyes. The morning had started with hunger and sleepiness, but it ended with warmth, comfort, and the reassuring feeling that someone was always there to care for her. As sunlight filled the room, tiny Linda rested peacefully in Mommy’s arms, safe and loved.
