It was a small moment—but for A Tong, it felt like everything.
He sat quietly, his pacifier snug in his mouth, bringing him comfort and calm. It was his little piece of peace. Then suddenly, his mom reached over and took it.
Just for a second.
But that second was enough.
A Tong froze.
His eyes widened, his lips trembling as the familiar comfort disappeared. He looked at her, confused at first—then the feeling hit.
Anger.
“Eh! Eh!” he cried, his voice rising instantly. His tiny hands reached forward, trying to grab it back. His body tensed, his face turning red with frustration.
Why did she take it?
He didn’t understand.
To him, it wasn’t just a pacifier—it was safety, soothing, something he needed. Seeing it in her hand made everything worse.
His cries grew louder, sharper, echoing through the room. Tears streamed down his cheeks as he kicked his legs and waved his arms wildly, demanding it back.
He wanted it now.
Not later.
Not after she “checked” it.
His mom looked at him, realizing quickly how upset he was. “Okay, okay… here you go,” she said gently, offering it back.
But A Tong was still crying.
Even as he grabbed it and placed it back into his mouth, his sobs continued, shaking his tiny body. The anger didn’t disappear instantly—it slowly melted as the comfort returned.
He sucked on the pacifier, his breathing uneven, his tears still falling.
His mom leaned closer, softly stroking his head. “It’s okay… I didn’t mean to upset you,” she whispered.
Gradually, A Tong calmed down.
His cries softened.
His body relaxed.
Because sometimes, even the smallest things mean everything—and losing them, even for a moment, can feel too big for a little heart to handle.
